Show #7 'Hear, See, Peel'

The John Peel Tribute Special

John Peel (John Robert Parker Ravenscroft)   30 August 1939 - 25 October  2004

Finally the John Peel show that I have been planning for what seems like forever.

As I mention in the show, deciding to do a John Peel show with the main bulk consisting only of selected sessions from his programme which spanned from the late sixties to 2004 is VERY DIFFICULT.

Think about this for a moment.
Hundreds of bands and thousands of sessions to choose from.
Not to mention that Mr. John Peel had impeccable taste.
What to pick?!

Well, after a quite arduous time of it, I was able to force myself to edit down the playlist as much I possibly could.

You just might hear more Peel Session shows sometime in the future. Although with a more specific theme, so that the seemingly impossible will not have to be pulled off again.

We love you John Peel.

"Today's transmission will give me the solution."

Six Years Ago today...

'Perfect Moments Wait...'
Mix Show -August '04

... I saw my favourite band The Cure live for the very first time.

My sister and I travelled from Walla Walla, Washington to stay in a hotel in Seattle, later that afternoon to head further north to Everett, that Tuesday.

My cousin was travelling there as well from Hood River, Oregon.

I made a mix for the journey in anticipation of the impending glory that would that evening.

These are the songs that 'led' us through our 'Roadway to The Cure', which incidentally was the phrase posted to our backseat window in the car on our trek north with the classic Cure Wish graffiti included.

"Perfect moments wait, if only we could stay..."

SUMMER '08 *Revisited*

Show #9 'The Vinyl Solution'

All vinyl show!

I love vinyl.
And there's really not much more I can say than that...
well... maybe a little more.

I have spoke briefly of this love affair earlier.
This you will know from my second show post.
There is something very special about records.
You place that intricately grooved slice of vinyl on the turntable... subtle shivers begin instantly!
Heaven knows if this is the millioneth time that needle has hit that first groove.
I believe that is part of the true art of it all.
Oh go on and call it nostalgia if you like, that is quite all right with me.
I have always had a bit of a weakness for nostalgia, anyway.

The 'mix' can prove to be somewhat divinatory.

Although, it was made for somebody else, listening to the songs some years later,
you suddenly realize...

I made this for the future me.

Of course, perhaps intuitively, this is what I have been doing all along.

Selfish me!
