Show # 3 'Plastic Passion Pt. 1'

ALL VINYL SHOW!

'Being Lou' By KleeGirl

All right, first I really feel that I must apologize to any regular listener (via download) of the show. I have yet to finish posting the rest of the Summer '09 shows and I am already well into the Fall '09 shows.

But if you have been regularly listening, you will have an inkling as to why.

Many months ago, I played for the first time an artist from Richmond, Virginia called plasticstatic on a mix show in the Spring '09 semester.

Ryan and I have since corresponded through those months and finally, in September, met in person for the very first time.

We are now engaged to be married.

So as you might have guessed, we actually got on like a house on fire and then some!
And... I have been keeping pretty busy with plans for the wedding, which will take place in November!

Due to planning, I have had to cancel a few shows already as well.
I have been feeling very guilty about this, so here I am posting Show # 3 from this Fall with extremely special guest Ryan, who is an even bigger 'music snob' than me. *haha* :^P

Oh and thanks to my 'fella' being there, I got a bit giddy and silly as well, you will NOT miss this fact.
Hopefully, this will not be the only time he can join me in the K-dub studio.

Ah! The future...

Five Years...

That is how long it has been since I saw the Cure for the very first time.

A lot has happened in my life in just those five years
Bad and quite good.

Thank goodness the past is what it is
The Past.

And we can choose to carry what memories we like from there onward.

The evening of the 31st of August in 2004 is one great memory that I plan to hold dear for years to come.

Yes, I know you just might be thinking...
Show #5?
What happened to #4?

Well, it's coming.
Last week was insane, so I never got around to recording, compressing and posting it.

This past week I resorted to the voice recorder which is far swifter and from now on shall be my preferred means of recording the show.

Show #2 'Plastic Passion Pt.1'

ALL VINYL SHOW!

'Can from Ryan' (2009)
A thousand apologies for this one.
Being an unfortunate one striken with nauseating allergies I'm afraid that my performance on this particular evening suffered.

As I mention in the programme (should you choose to listen) this is what I consider the first vinyl show of the semester 'curse'.

Now, I am not a superstitous person by nature, because really that is simple nonsense.
However, it would seem that every 'first' vinyl show of the semester that I 'attempt' to pull off, proceeds to be disasterous.
Not sure why really, just the way it goes I suppose.

Although, I always correct a mistake.
So, late in the Summer...
Expect a stellar vinyl edition once again.

**note: The end was cut off, no big loss though, it's just me babbling Just letting you know.

Show #17 'Going Home Time... Story On The Radio'

Finally, the last show of the Spring Semester.

Lots of requests, unusually as I'm such a stickler for a planned playlist.

Jason - Sigur RĆ³s
Maija - Pinback & She Wants Revenge
Brenda - My Morning Jacket, Arcade Fire & Fiery Furnaces
Ryan - who overwhelmed with a such a vast knowledge of music could not seem to decide on a request so he left it in my hands. ( I think the Ride especially sufficed though)

So a big thanks to them for bringing some spontaneity to my last show.

But wait, dry your eyes...

I should be back in a few weeks sometime in June for KWCW's Summer Programming.

See... I could never leave you!

Stay tuned.

Show # 15 'Disintegration 20th Anniversary'

All Cure Show!

Here it is.
Quite possibly the most important album in my collection.
The Cure's 'Disintegration', now 20 years old.

Rather belated but for good reason.
Mere Dissatisfaction.

A thousand apologies for the severely poor quality of the reception.
I can only give you the consolation that it's just the bits with me talking, the rest I have re-recorded because well, it's the music that's important here.

I should feel quite ashamed for even leaving those bits in the show, I thought about just leaving them out altogether.
A decision I may later regret.
We shall see.

Although you listeners may just be far too kind to say, I mean you are good people.
But in advance, I will just let you know...
Yes! The reception is terrible, inaudible really at times.
So, you have been warned.

Let's face it though...
The Cure can make up for anything.

I have to make mention of one more thing.
During the show, a listener actually called the station and said they didn't really like the Cure before, but after hearing these songs they were won over!
But that was inevitable really.
And that is what it is all about.
The whole goal of my show.
To win people over and bring them to the good side...

...Left of the dial.

"...Stains on the memory.
Songs about happiness murmured in dreams,
when both of us knew how the end always is."

Show #11 'It's Going To Be A Fine Night, Tonight'

There's no real special theme for this show.

I got sort of fed up with always having a 'theme' at this particular moment and just wanted to play what I felt like.

Although it all has a kind of Spring-y tinge to it, well as far as I'm concerned.

Also, it would seem that I started to get my 'shoe-gaze' on for a moment.

But mostly this is music that reminds me of green, breezy days and cool nights.

Spring is the most 'hopeful' of months... so here are some songs that seem to have a dab of hope in them.

House Burning... Firemen Sleeping

Mix Show #4

Cover art: Paul Klee, 'Fire In The Evening' (1929)

Now didn't I say I'd be more on the ball this week?
And so, the very next day no less, I give you show #10!
Now if I can just keep it this way, oh, I'm sure I will.

I failed to mention in the show what actually inspired this mix.

One day years ago, whilst driving out in the countryside through a small outskirt community something caught my attention.

A house barely intact that had obviously burned down to the ground, and right next door was a Fire Station.

Now while I pondered this for a moment I thought, well evidently this was a very old house and was most likely used by the station for training or something. Nonetheless, I thought it’d make a humourous photograph. Unfortunately though it was impossible to get the two things to fit side by side in the photo.

So the idea of a concept mix came to me instead, and this, many months later, is what has resulted.

I ended up making it for a friend whom I thought might appreciate the title being the huge Morrissey fan that he is.

I really didn’t want to do this whole ‘fire’ theme throughout the mix as I thought that might be a bit too pretentious. Besides that really wasn’t the true gist of it anyhow.

So there are various subtleties in the songs, although after a while the title wasn’t as pertinent and what I thought the intended listener would really like was considered more instead. But I think it still turned out nice anyway

"The car's on fire, and there's no driver at the wheel."
